on hte farm

two arms
full of
heavy vegetables.
Downwards gaze to the earth
prostrate to our mother
she has given us life

you're sitting there by your window looking out below to the streets
there are some people out there in the sun in the heat oh cooking their skin it's fresh meat
the juicy smell wafts up and into your nose wrinkling it in mixed disgust and hunger
and you hear your mother giving her cuts out, she's a meat monger by trade, flail in hand, tenderising all that meat
and she offers you a portion which you wisely refuse but she's got a temper that is unforgiving oh like the sun
she'll cut off your fingers without a second thought for a discrepancy disguised as ???
so you elect to leave home you're gonna play with the girls and boys outside
